Brno once again confirms its position as one of the leading centres of science and innovation in the Czech Republic. On May 19, 2026, the Brno City Council approved support for talented PhD students as part of the Brno Ph.D. Talent programme. A total of CZK 9 million will be distributed this year among 25 young scientists in natural sciences and technical fields.

Each selected scholarship holder will receive CZK 360,000, allowing them to fully focus on their research and develop innovative projects over a three-year period. The programme, running since 2009, has already supported more than 300 graduates and significantly contributes to encouraging top researchers to build their future in Brno.

“By supporting young scientists, we are creating an environment where they can fully develop their potential and push the boundaries of knowledge,” said Mayor Markéta Vaňková. According to city representatives, university students and graduates are key to the region’s further development – they bring new ideas, energy, and the courage to innovate.

However, the Brno Ph.D. Talent programme offers more than just financial support. Participants can also take advantage of development courses focused on soft skills, along with other support activities that help them succeed not only in science but also in practice.

Interest in the programme continues to grow – last year, for example, a record 151 applicants applied. Once again, Brno is building on a highly successful year and reaffirming its ambition to be a city of science, education, and innovation.

Prospective applicants should take note: submissions for the next round will open on September 3, 2026. If you are planning PhD studies in Brno and want to contribute to research with real social impact, this programme could be the right opportunity for you.
