Brno will sign a memorandum with the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic that will deepen cooperation in research and popularisation of science. The sharing of knowledge will also help the development of the city. The proposal was approved by councillors at their meeting.
“The Memorandum will strengthen the mutual functioning of the city and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. The aim will be, for example, joint support of departments involved in national and international programmes. It will also involve sharing expertise that will be used for the development of Brno,” said Brno Mayor Markéta Vaňková.
In addition, the document highlights the popularisation of science across various disciplines. “Cooperation is expected not only in the field of natural sciences, but also in social sciences and humanities,” said Anna Putnová, Brno’s representative for innovation and cooperation with research organisations.
“We are very happy to sign the Memorandum. As the Academy of Sciences, we have a relatively strong representation in Brno with several important institutes from all fields of science, and the potential for mutually beneficial cooperation is great,” adds Eva Zažímalová, President of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.
The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding is planned for Monday 11 September at 13.30 in the Knights’ Hall of the New Town Hall. It will be attended by the Mayor of the city and the President of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic Eva Zažímalová. Representatives of Brno institutes and branches of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic or representatives of relevant departments of the City Hall will also be present. The event will summarise the joint achievements to date and present future activities.
The new agreement will build on the current cooperation agreement, which has been in force since 2007.
