The Meet the Mayor event, held this year on January 13 at the New Town Hall, once again confirmed Brno’s ambition to be an open and welcoming city for international professionals. The meeting provided space for personal dialogue between the city’s leadership—headed by Mayor Markéta Vaňková—and foreigners who live, work, and contribute to Brno’s further development.

Meet the Mayor is a regular city initiative aimed not only at symbolically welcoming international talent, but also at giving them an opportunity to share their experiences of living in Brno. This open exchange of views helps the city better understand the needs of this group and respond to the practical challenges that come with life in a new country.
International professionals form an important part of Brno’s society. Today, more than 66,000 foreigners live in the city, approximately 10,000 of whom are highly qualified expats. They work mainly in science, research, IT, business services, universities, and cultural institutions, and they significantly contribute to Brno’s international reputation.
To ensure that Brno is not only a place to work but also a long-term home, the city supports international professionals through practical assistance. A key role in this area is played by the Brno Expat Centre, which helps with visas, housing, schools, healthcare, and orientation in the local environment.
Supporting international talent is part of the city’s long-term strategy and is also reflected in the Brno 2050 strategy document, which emphasizes openness, sustainable development, and international cooperation. Initiatives such as Meet the Mayor clearly show that Brno aims to be a city where people from all over the world feel welcome—and where they want to stay.
