The City of Brno has announced the winners of the prestigious Brno Ph.D. Talent 2025 competition. From a record number of finalists who presented their projects to an expert panel during the second week of December at the JCMM, 25 promising Ph.D. candidates from the natural sciences and technical fields were selected.

Each of them will receive an exceptional three-year scholarship of CZK 360,000, representing a total investment of CZK 9 million in the development of young scientists and the future competitiveness of the region. The competition focuses on natural sciences, technical, and mathematical disciplines, areas in which we aim to attract top experts in the long term. The selection process was very challenging, as all finalists demonstrated a high level of expertise and strong commitment to science.
The new projects will address topics such as more effective epilepsy therapies, the development of biomedical implants using 3D printing, micro-robots enabling programmable capture of bacteria for comprehensive biofilm eradication, or research into the cellular basis of tooth healing.
This year saw record participation, with 151 Ph.D. candidates applying—the highest number in the history of the competition. The Brno Ph.D. Talent program has been running since 2009 and has long contributed to the development of the city’s research ecosystem. In cooperation with four partner universities, it has supported more than 300 Ph.D. candidates who now work in academia, research institutions, and technology companies.
The program is organized by JCMM, with financial support provided by the City of Brno.
Do you know someone who might also apply? There will be another opportunity next year.
We greatly value our cooperation with JCMM and are grateful for the strong support it provides to young talents. Congratulations to all the winners—we look forward to their future successes!
