BusinessSmart Brno

The 13th edition of the Smart City Expo World Congress, the world’s most important event on smart cities, starts today in the Catalan capital. From 5 to 7 November, it will also offer record Czech participation for the first time.

Thirty exhibitors from start-ups, innovative companies and universities and three key Czech cities – Prague, Brno and Plzeň – will present themselves in a unique national exposition of 308 m2 organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the CzechTrade agency with the support of three other ministries.

The national exhibition will present Talent and Innovation in a variety of solutions, from which the dominant thematic lines – circular economy and mobility – stands out. There is room for creativity and ideas from young innovators. In Barcelona, the implementation of a sustainable exhibition under the auspices of BVV Trade Fairs Brno will be piloted. The result is a unique concept using Czech pressed boards – Packwall – from tetrapack beverage cartons and recycled plastic boards from Plastic Guys as primary construction materials for the Foamy circular sofa.

One of the interesting solutions is the conversion of kitchen waste into digestible pellets and promotional items in the form of soaps made from coffee grounds collected at the national exhibition at the International Engineering Fair in Brno. The Czechs are also participating in the Green Exhibitor Awards with this concept.

Brno is showcasing its advanced innovation ecosystem in Barcelona, which contributes to the high share of R&D activities in the region. The city attracts young talents and creators, promotes education in science and technology, collaborates with ecosystem partners and increases its innovation potential. This is one of the reasons why people in the city and the South Moravian region enjoy a good life.
