URBIS The Smart Cities Meetup will take place from 4 to 6 June at the Brno Exhibition Centre. The event consists of a conference and an exhibition part and is intended primarily for representatives of local governments. Its aim is to provide visitors with the latest knowledge in the field of Smart Cities and to help local governments to implement innovations, share know-how and connect with actors in the innovation ecosystem.
URBIS is actively supported by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Regional Development of the Czech Republic, the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic, the Union of Towns and Municipalities of the Czech Republic, the Association of Local Authorities of the Czech Republic, the South Moravian Region, the Statutory City of Brno and dozens of other professional associations and institutions.
It will become a key event focusing on smart cities. It is an excellent opportunity for sharing know-how, inspiration and building new partnerships that will contribute to the sustainable development of our cities.
Almost 100 top speakers from the Czech Republic and abroad
The new URBIS concept emphasizes the conference part. The main part of the programme will take place in the Rotunda of Hall A, with two additional auditoriums in Hall A1. In these, space will be given mainly to practical experiences and exhibitors. In addition to the Czech speakers, speakers from Austria, Finland, Germany, Portugal, Norway and Slovakia will share their knowledge and experience.
The conference is divided into three thematic areas – energy and climate, efficient public administration and future mobility. The keynote speakers for each area will speak in the Rotunda on the morning of the first day, including Czech Environment Minister Petr Hladík, Czech Transport Minister Martin Kupka and Deputy Minister for European Affairs Pavlína Žáková. On the second day, the programme will continue with presentations mainly focused on energy and on the third day the focus will be on the future of transport.
In total, the URBIS conference programme includes about 6 dozen lectures.
From the total three-day programme we select:
Participation and Innovation in Public Administration
In the Rotunda, innovation management will be the focus of the session “Innovation Management Does Not Know Rocket Science” (Tuesday 16:00), which will be rounded off with the unique story of the transformation of the small Portuguese town of Fundão. Other specific programmes in this area will focus on innovation competitions or participation in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In addition to local governments, the topic of participation is also addressed to developers, business leaders and technology companies.
Innovative technologies for municipalities and cities
80 exhibitors are presenting at URBIS. The organisers have prepared favourable conditions for start-up companies in the field of smart city, thanks to which there are many interesting and innovative solutions on the exhibition floor.
Brno municipal companies will also present solutions that practically improve the lives of Brno citizens at the URBIS fair. One of these solutions is, for example, intelligent transport systems, which will be presented by Brno Communications and the Brno Transport Company. SAKO Brno will present the energy recovery of waste, and Teplárny Brno will present the development of infrastructure for electromobility in Brno. Other exhibitors include Citymind or Gamax, which offer products for cities and municipalities based on artificial intelligence, and visitors will also see several exhibitors with advanced carsharing solutions. Also on display will be digital solutions for city management, innovative products from the energy and waste management sectors.
URBIS is located in the Rotunda of Hall A, Hall A1 and in several other halls of the Brno Exhibition Centre. The exhibition centre is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Representatives of local governments and other entities related to the operation of cities and municipalities have free admission upon registration.
