Over the next three years, Brno will support 25 winners of the 15th annual Brno Ph.D. Talent competition with scholarships totalling CZK 9 million. This will help them focus on research in nanoscience, oncology or plasma physics and complete it successfully.
Brno Ph.D. Competition Talent is held annually every year. It is open to students in the first year of doctoral studies in natural sciences or engineering. This year there were 120 applicants. Of these, 50 finalists were selected and presented their projects to an expert committee last week. The committee selected the 25 best ones, each of whom will receive a scholarship of CZK 360,000. The competition is organised by the JCMM and subsidised by the City of Brno.
“The subsidies have increased this year, and we are currently distributing a total of CZK 9 million to students, which is CZK 750 000 more. In addition to funding, we also support them in the programme in other ways, for example by offering development courses focused on soft skills. It’s amazing how many talented people capable of going beyond the existing human knowledge are concentrated in Brno. Our support, which helps them to focus on their studies and complete their research, can contribute to discoveries that benefit the whole of society,” said Anna Putnová, Deputy Commissioner for Innovation and Cooperation with Research Organisations.
An overview of this year’s scholarship recipients can be found at JCMM web page. The overview of already supported talents are also available on the same website.
